Florida to MX or Belize/Honduras by Boat

I did a quick search and didn't yield any results other than old threads stating that the ferries have all closed down.

It's clear that there are none running now, and I've reached out to United Caribbean Lines which promptly replied

"Thank you for checking out our web site for new ferry service to Cuba and the Caribbean.

As soon as we receive the approval form the U.S. Government to operate the service we will send you information on the process, rates, and schedules you will need to book travel with us.

If you are inquiring about service to Cancun and the Yucatan in Mexico we expect to have further details on that service by the spring and begin service before the end of the year.

Sincerely,"

Outside of a defunct ferry business, are there any suggestions as to how to connect to possible private sailboats that might be willing to take on a bike and passenger? Any other forums or FB chat groups where you've found results?

I will update this thread with any findings as well.

your best bet will be containerized shipping through a consolidator in miami.

There is a regular container freight shipping service between Progreso , the port for Merida , YUC , and a south Florida port but they do not carry passengers. You would need to go through a freight consolidator to ship a bike or whatever and then fly by airline.

As to a ferry service to Cuba and other islands points starting up, don't get your hopes up. Several years ago when Obama spoke about ending the Cuba Embargo BAJA FERRIES put out a similar hopeful projection and promised email
updates . Nothing has come of it yet especially since the Donald is pandering to the Miami Cubans .

Yep, at the moment it would appear that that's the case. Thanks for the reply

Did a bit of internet free-form snooping and came up with this directory.
Agencias Aduanales

Move down to Lineas Navieras >

then gets you http://www.puertosyucatan.com/di/lineasnavieras.htm with he freight services

Click on Seaboard Marine and then> click on rates and tariffs www.seaboardmarine.com
and you should get some figures .
Same process > > for any other service listed under that directory should get you recent data from the actual sources

Thank you kindly. On a similar but unrelated note, I contacted a few shipping agencies for quotes from NYC to Puerto Cortes, Honduras. 1 no reply, one no service at this time and one quoted $2800!!!!!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
