Price and range wise, I want to get all my equipment in one hit. Am I bettter off going to the States or the UK, both for price and range. Am looking at everything from tents, sleeping bags etc to stove etc...

From what my English friends say, definitely the US. Get thee to an REI store - or shop there online - they have everything you need, in the size, colour, features and at good prices.

what you can buy in USA for $100 can cost £100 here in the UK, and with the pound being nearly 200% of a dollar thats a big price difference. depending on what you buy you could still make a saving, including the airfare!

And if you can buy online, you save on the sales tax (7-8%). Just make sure you know what you are buying though.
Aerostich sells lots of motorcycle related stuff www.riderwearhouse.com and has a good no questions asked return policy.
Cycoactive.com sells mainly Touratech stuff.
If you are buying all your stuff from one shop at one go, discuss with the manager about a tax refund, its not as easy as Europe where you get a standard form to fill and your money back at exit but its doable.
careful with cloths though, most American shops stock 'common; American sizes so if you are below 36 waist, getting trousers may involve a little wait!
