Trousers over MX boots?
 

Hi,

I'm after some waterproof trousers, with removable liner and armour that will fit over MX boots.

They'll be used for commuting as well as trips further afield. I tried some trousers on in Hein Gericke that seemed ideal but they just wouldn't fit properly over the boots.

Does anyone have any suggestions of trousers that fit the bill?

I have some Firstgear hypertex HT riding pants as well as zip out liners that fit over riding boots. Pictures on their site:

I like the fact that they not only fit over my riding boots, but the side 2/3 zipper allows me to zip up the legs and step in and out of them without taking off my boots. They are sized to be worn over clothes. Aerostich Darien overpants are also quite good. Pictures on their site:

I have riding friends who swear by them but I haven't ever found a used pair that I could afford.

BMW ralleyepro pants would also fill the bill. As with Aerostich, too rich for my blood.

Others may have ideas.

Waterproof, fit comfortably over boots, and got a 9/10 rating (by far the top mark) from Adventure Bike Rider magazine in a recent test of about a dozen waterproof pants.

Whilst those look like good solutions they're a bit pricey - I should have mentioned a budget in my original post. I was really hoping to spend under £200. The HG trousers really did fit the bill, it's just a shame the didn't have a few more cm's in the trouser bottoms.

I'd already seen the Klim and while they're ideal, they're too pricey. I've had a look and the price seems to be £280 across the board.

Good motorcycle gear is quite expensive. One option I have found useful is buying good lightly used gear from folks who have grown too big for their britches. Or in my latest case, First gear hypertex pants and Kilamanjaro jacket for 100.00 with some light road rash. It requires patience and more time than you may have, but good used top of the line gear is available in the classifieds at BMWMOA or ADVrider as well as Craigslist and other places. Like you, I can't afford Aerostich, Klim, Rukka new prices.

Just an idea of what has worked for me.

That said if these are the wrong size.
I can say that the sinisalo pants are very good and a lot cheaper than most on the market. I have used these in very heavy rain and they kept me dry. Only selling these because they are now to big for me.

The Sinisalos look good - decent price but lacking armour in the knees - I'd prefer to not have to wear my knee pads if possible. The Revits also look good but seem a bit expensive - I reckon maybe in the january sales I might be able to get some Klim gear for not too much more.

I use Motoport (Kevlar Motorcycle Apparel - the Best in the World) kevlar pants, custom-made fit of motocross boots. The custom-fit is standard for the company. Expensive butt worth the cost.

Well, after looking all over the web, unsurprisingly I think I've settled on the Klim Traverse trousers. After weighing it all up I think stretching that bit more will be worth it.

Do you know if bike gear shops have sales after Christmas? I'm hoping to flog some stuff on eBay before crimbo then snap up a bargain in the sales? Might be wishful thinking but worth a go.
