Smile Tent Trailer vs Tenting

Hi Everyone
I am looking for some words of wisdom. My husband and I are planning a long road trip through Canada, USA, South America and Europe, We love to camp so we were thinking of purchasing a tent trailer to put behind the Harley and camp along the way. But not sure if this is the best option because of boarder crossings, road conditions etc. Please give us some advise. Your experience or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Any info would help us make a decision.

My 2 cents

use the trailer in Canada and the US, but sell it or whatever before hitting Mexico. Roads Mexico south aren´t as good as up north (so you won´t worry about bashing it on the topes and having it break off parts on the rought stuff), motels are cheap and plentiful and camping areas are not so you´ll not miss it.

You aslo won´t have to worry about transporting from Panama to Colombia, or to Europe. You might be able to pick another one up in Europe then.

My wife and I have camped from Alaska to Florida using a small tent trailer which I pull behind my Harley . In North America, it is much better than hotels because you meet so many great people.

We have also ridden through Mexico and all of Central America, and would never pull a trailer behind the bike. We stay in small downtown Hotels in smaller centers. Very inexpensive, well located close to markets and all the local activities, and the bike is always secure inside the hotel lobby or guarded lot. Borrow a copy of the “Lonely Planet” from you local library to get an idea of what is available; the hotels, restaurants, costs, etc.

Also, you want every bit of acceleration you can get from your Harley when passing on blind curves, trusting the semi in front of you which is signaling you to do so.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
