Tent to fit inside Zega case
 

Does anyone know of a one man tent that when packed will fit inside a touratech zega case?

Yes, a Vaude Bivi. Very Small, will easily fit. I think it even fits upright.

Only one skin so gets a bit moist in the heat, but very sturdy, 800g, and takes maybe 4 mins to put up.

I've got a lot of tents, but no Touratech Zega. Maybe you could post inside dimensions of the case....?

It depends on what size you want your tent to be. Small one man tents/bivvis like KTMmartin will fit in easily. But, personally, I prefer a tent I can sit up in - so you would be looking at about 90cm to 100cm height, depending on your height.

At the moment I am also looking for a tent small enough for all my gear and small enough to fit into my zega cases. My current tent is unnecessarily big - too much wasted spaced. Ideally I want a one and half man tent!

I'm looking at the Black's Octane range of tents - I waiting for my local store to have its annual tent show so that I can go and try it out. Another possibility is to buy in America (excellent dollar/pound rate). Companies like Big Agnes and Alps make some good tents, although their hydrostatic head ratings tend to be lower - but that shouldn't be a problem for summer camping.

Don't worry too much you can always pack the tent without the poles so it'll pack down smaller and the store the poles either vertical in the box or strap them somewhere else on the bike.

I bought one of these for $70 but I notice it's only $56 today on Amazon.com ! A great little tent but not a two man.

How about an MSR zoid 1/zoid 1.5?Light enough,packs small,and tall enough to sit up straight at one end.

While I haven't used a bivi bag (it definately isn't a tent) I just can't see myself lying in it for days at a time in rotten wet weather or an enforced stop. A tent, even a small one, is much more comfortable and who knows, it might hold the occasional 2 for amusement. You can change clothes, read, play cards with your companion, cook, spread out, hold all your gear nearby, etc. and are possibly more "private". Most modern tents are very light but gram for gram give a lot more than body bags. I wouldn't carry a tent in one of my panniers anyway, why would you? When rolled up, it fits perfectly as an external load and the panniers are for more deserving items (clothes, books, cards, cooking gear etx).

Eurka solo will fit. But in the long run you do not want to keep your tent in the box. The Zega box are water tight (more or less) and if you put a wet tent in them and then the box heats up the water vapor will permeate all the things in the box. Leave a wet tent in the nice hot box for a few days and you will get mold in tent and every where else.

Only going where its dry? Then in the desert your tent will pick up sand and deposit it in your box. Just not worth problems.

If your going to use the tent only from time to time get a tarp tent or shelters. There smaller packed down, lighter, no poles. There are some that are very adaptable. I use a 20 year old dome tent rain fly, a line from the bike to the ground and some spikes and a my shelters up some times I gust role it up around my sleeping bag and go to sleep. (faster to get get out of there when the Napa county cops tell you to move along no camping in the rich people parks.)

I've been looking at these Gelert Solo but not sure if it's too small for extra gear and stuff.

Silly money though - and they're very light. Seem to have the pack size you're looking for.

If you are at all interested let me know what the Inner length of your boxes is and i can measure it to make sure...

This tent is perfect for one person and thier gear.. if you follow the link you will see that we used it for months with two people and all out rear.. this can be a bit squeezy. but worked fine.

I measured it and packed length with poles is 51L X12Dcm which would fit diagonally in the touratech boxes.

any tent (within reason) will, minus the poles.
and you can make your own poles to any folded length

Vango list it as a 2 person tent which is being a bit optimistic. More like 1 person + gear. They state pitching time is 10 mins but I reckon you can half that by the time you've had a couple of practice runs.

I paid £65 for mine from a high street camping shop, probably a little cheaper on the 'net.

I think some of you are missing an important consideration.

Tents get wet, and often you'll pack them wet. You try to hang out until they totally dry, and you won't be hitting the road until noon some days. And some days, when its foggy or raining, they won't dry at all.

I wouldn't want to pack anything wet inside my cases where I'm trying to keep everything else dry.

I carry my tent in a separate tent bag, strapped to the outside of the bike. I use the Helen's 2 Wheel medium cord-close sack Cord Close Sacks

Its made by a motorcycle rider, for strapping to motorcycles - much better than just a tent sack designed for strapping to a backpack. So the tent can be stuffed into this thing wet or dry. I just ordered a replacement for the one I used the past 5 years (sun does that to nylon, as you know).

So, I'm not sure why any of you would want to carry a tent inside your cases. And buying a tent, simply because it will fit inside your cases, is also a bad way to choose a tent. Buy a tent because its suitable for the job of keeping you dry, holding you and all your gear, easy to set up, light-weight, compact, all the other stuff - but not because it can fit inside your sidecase.
