Sidi Courier vs Gaerne Explorer?
 

Hi all
Looking to buy some good touring/off road/ok for walking /warm in winter/bearable in Summer boots! Waterproof if possible but I will attempt to make them waterproof with G-Wax or anything anyone can also advise as good waterproofing coatings.

Any advice and thoughts please all? From reading previous posts the two in thread title seem to be up there or anyone got any more ideas?They will be used on and off road in UK firstly but then some more adventurous trips in future I hope overseas.

My Altberg Hoggs are arriving next week so you are welcome to buy my Sidi couriers off me. The Sidi's are really comfortable and give good support, are water tight and comfortable to walk in for short distances. Actually more comfortable than my Sidi Black Rain boots.

Going for the Altbergs because we spend a lot of time hiking around at our stops and the Sidi's, or any Mx style boot, isn't the best for long walks.

What size are they please and condition? age? wear and tear? Could you possibly e mail me a pic? What would be the postage costs? Just as marker they seem to be advertised in very good condition on E bay for about £40 ish.

They are size 45.

Yes many of the ebay boots do start at £40 but most end at about £65-85 and up to over £100 in varying condition. My price is £50. With £5 for postage standard no frills mail. Considering that new is £175 this is a bargain.

Boots are good condition with reasonable ware. The Sidi imprint on the sole is still visible so there are still many miles of tread left on them. I replaced the steel toecaps last week as they had worn through....I must stop dragging my toes.

Will send you a pic this evening with the boots "as is" without any polish etc to make is look new.

Hi no worries Dave! I might just keep them for my winter commuting as they were very weather proof through this last winter.

Hope you get many happy miles of riding and walking out of them

If you're still looking to sell them I might be interested. Any idea what 45 translates to in UK sizes?

I have the Gaerne Explorers and really like them. They are not as stiff (or protective) as full MX boots, but offer a good shin protector and good buckles. They were confortable right away, and are easy to walk in.

After hearing about someone's pannier boxes falling on their leg and braking it I have decided I need to get something with a bit more protection than my Dainese gortex boots.

After looking around a few forums Gaerne Explorer's have been mentioned. How are you finding them?

Are they ok for walking short distances?

I have used and still own both the Gaerne Explorer and the Sidi Courier.
The Gaerne breathes better and is perhaps a slightly softer boot but they are both much the same.
1 hour hiking on a pretty flat wet trail was fine but these are NOT hiking boots.
Simon Milward rode round the world using ordinary tough leather hiking boots.
Try each one, if you can, and use what is most comfortable for U. :-)
Oh and buy some pure wool socks to use with your new boots.
You'll be delighted with the lack of odour at the end of the day.

Been using my couriers for a couple of years now and they are tops. They did leak a little in some extreme wet weather but I can thoroughly recommend Goretex socks to cure that problem with any boots. If you can get them the MOD issue fantastic ones to the troops which are utterly watertight and very breathable.

I have wore these boots probably 7 days and the stitches are letting go the boot is disintegrating on me. Probably not waterproof anymore. Very bad purchase and built quality. The most expensive boots ever 43$ per day! :ban:

Can't vouch for the GAERNE!
I have the Courier,
Great Quality,
Good level of protection,
Very comfy.
Walking about is Ok but would not want to hike more than a mile or two!
The soles are bit soft with good grip and are flat! like a trails boot.
This seams a plus in that you can move about on the pegs easier but on the other hand I'm never quite sure how close my toes are to the gear shifter!
Slightly concerned I might change gear accidentally while standing :(
Also the metal toe protectors are slippy on pavement.
They seem quite breathable,
Can't say about the waterproofness yet!
would I buy again @ £200. Yes! :clap:
