Shoei Neotec

I'm really interested in buying the Borealis version of this helmet. I've read elsewhere that the top vent vents air permanently, even when closed. There was some excuse from Shoei about movement of air, but as someone else pointed out, if air gets in so can water! The info I read was largely from 2012; I was wondering whether anyone knows whether Shoei had done anything about this? In the UK, always venting air isn't a great idea with Winter coming!

Anyone bought a Neotec recently? Is this an issue?

I've had mine for over a year now. I stayed warm and dry after 500 km last weekend in 10 degrees c with rain most of the time. Best helmet I've ever owned.

I been hankering for the Neotec for quite some time. I own the Multitec and it's a great helmet and the neo is better. I love the idea of a sun shade, since I wear glasses. I can't imagine Shoei would make vents that don't close. They pump a lot of $$ into R&D and final stage development. Try a touch of talcum powder on the vent plastic to break the bond, then it should slide.

i can attest that these - very expensive helmets - do "leak" air all the time, even when vents are all closed.
it's annoying as hell, especially on long rides.
shouldn't be that way for the $$$ they cost.
at first i thought i'd re-attached the visor incorrectly when i had removed it for cleaning. nope. there is always a trickle of air against top center of your forehead no matter what.
frustrating.

Did you try applying the silicone lubricant to the seal?

mangiacavallo 15 Jun 2014 04:15

nope. not sure that would help because i've tried (just to check) covering the top of the face shield and top vent with my hand while i rode and it made no difference.
still, for a helmet costing this kind of money, this should not be happening.
i'm really disappointed in shoei - i've used their helmets for years without a problem. this one was new to me.
alas ...

Neotec

For what its worth, I bought my neotec last year and have about 9K miles on it in winter and summer. I think the finish and construction of the helmet is first rate. The pads are really comfortable and being able to flip the face shield is really good in traffic. I agree with what's been said about the wind noise is pretty constant, and I always seem to get some in front vent, but nothing I'd really complain about. I have never had an issue with it being waterproof however, its always been really tight. My only dig on it is that I find it to be pretty loud but everyone says that modulars will do that. Overall very solid helmet, not cheap, but not cheaply made either.

Safe riding

Love the Neotec, I've had at least a dozen helmets. An old uncomfortable Bell half shell saved my life in 1982 when I was a motor cop. Helmets today are all good, but Shoei makes a great product. They all make noise, unless you get a custom made full cover racing helmet, NASCAR style . The Neotec is well worth the money.

Guys just to let you know shoei has done a mod on my helmet free, they replace the seal on the top with one that shuts fully. It was initially designed for use un hotter climate but they found it not to good in the cold Europe.

So get to your dealer and have the mod done
