Rain Gear Suggestions
Can anyone recommend some rain suits that they have used on rides longer than a few weeks and actually used them in some decent downpours and they lasted the entire ride? One Piece and 2 piece suits suggestions please and thank you

I think they're all pretty much the same kind of thing. There not really much to them. Just make sure they fit over your boots and have half decent stitching.

I always prefer a two piece rain suit.. It's much easier to get on at the side of the road and you can use the jacket at any time, not just on the bike.

I don't see the point of the "zip in" liners as your riding gear still gets completely soaked through which is a total pain if you're camping or want to keep things in the pockets.

What he said. On my second trip I used a Chinese made two piece that I'd bought to wear trekking in Chile, after wearing a waterproof suit on my first. An equally dry and much lighter and more versatile solution.

The German company Held do a reasonably priced 2 piece over suit which works well and packs down small.

I am also looking for waterproofs. However, I know what I want: trousers with a zip way up the side of the legs.

Putting on waterproofs is a PITA with boots on unless they are made for someone twice you size in which case you look flappy on the road, ballooned like an airbag, or ridiculous at petrol stops with waistband chaffing under your armpits.

If you can find a pair with a well protected zip up the legs to at least the knee, you will find put them on much easier: The shop changing room is one thing, but hopping by the side of a round is quite another. Just something to think about!

I agree with Warthog.......definately long zips on the trousers.

Here's a link to the Held Aqua trousers which have a long zip and of you scroll down you'll find the Mistral jacket that goes with them.

I've used industrial two piece suits from those "work wear" outlets which are great value for money. 3/4 length jacket and elasticated waist trousers with ankle zips.They're usually PVC but you don't need breathability while sitting still and they are absolutely waterproof. Some might not like the fluro colours though and they offer zero protection in an off.

First Gear makes some good quality, functional, and reasonably priced rain gear.

Back in the late 70's when their wasn't the choice we have now the hard men doing long distances from our club used sailing gear. It was cheaper and better than bike gear. Might still be better now.

Louis does nice pants with all the way zipers on both legs:

I prefer to have a rain gear in 2 pieces.

Why?
Because, you can use it when you are going arround without the bike
to protect your normal cloth. (sorry shitty english *g*)
Just take the jacket ..
If you "need a tree" its easier to handle with your "tools" too ... :-)

(but this will not help you, because you are staying in the us)
