Optimus 8R stove goes out
I've not used a camping stove in the past 10 years, so I'm probably doing something wrong. It lights ok, after pre-heating with some fuel, but then goes out after 20 seconds or so. I can hear it pressurize when pre-heating it, but it doesn't maintain pressure. It's supposed to be self-pressurising, or is this a gimmick? I'm using Coleman liquid fuel. Any suggestions, or do I need to manually pressurise it with a pump?
Cheers. |

Hi, If you get a minipump (originale extrastuff) then it probably will work fine. Look at the photo on the link below.
Self presurizing?? Sounds lika a salesmans word to me... http://www.wingevapen.no/optimus.htm Best regards Yngve |

The 8R is a solid stove and has been built for quite a few years now. I use a SVEA 123 which has the same burner but mounted directly on top of the tank and thus transfers heat to the fuel more effectively. The warm fuel creates the vapor pressure to keep the stove going. If you don't have a plugged orfice (check by using the cleaner, otherwise known as a "catwhisker") then you are running out of fuel due to lack of pressurization. A link with lots of detail is : http://www.epinions.com/otdr_Camping...splay_~reviews
Reading the reviews will be very enlightening. stguy (Ray) |

I used an 8R for a long trip (4-5 months), although not every day, but never had any problems.
