MSR fuel pump
Can anyone advise on fixing a pump for a MSR whisperlite stove. The pump is not getting air in my fuel bottle. I tried lubricating it but still not working. Do I need to get a new one.

Hi
MSR do a service kit for the pump but are you sure it is the pump, a common problem is that the metal pipe between the bottle and the stove head gets garmed up, take the pipe off pull the inner cord out and give it a clean. Also give the shaker jet a clean up. Hope this helps Skip

I will contact MSR soon, but right now I am in Inuvik and want to just boil water along the Dempster. The pump has 0 resistence no matter how many pumps I give it. General opinion here is that a gasket is blown somewhere but I don't see on in the manual diagram.

Leather Cup
I've had a similar problem with the MSR Dragonfly where the fuel bottle didn't pressurise and the leather cup was dried out. Simply lubing it through the top of the pump didn't help but disassembling the pump and then working the oil into the cup did. Hope that helps!
I see that the weather is nicer in Inuvik now than it is here in Calgary (19 C vs 16 C), enjoy your trip.

Nice to see you are on the road! When my MSR did this, it was always the leather cup. Extend the pump, and with the x-shaped shaft in your hand, twist it off the pump body. This will allow you to pull the shaft and leather cup out. Spit onto the leather and massage the spit into the leather, trying to make it 'flatter' so that no air can leak by it.
Reassemble. Hope that helps. Rene

i had a similar problem with my wisperlight ones, it tured out that oen of fuel line that go's from the pump in the resevoir was clogged. try the folowing, detach the pump, take out the pump handel (the rod with the plastic cup i mean) fil the inside of the pump with petrol or somthing lik that (i used 95% ukrainian drinking spirit) then reinsert teh pump handel and try to press it dowm (pump) if there is somthing cloged in teh tube that go's in the resevoir it will shoot out after a few times, at leat it did in my case.
