Helmet with peak and clear-lenses glasses
 

Hello there,
I find peaked helmets (like HJC hybrid dual sport) very comfortable for different reasons: while riding facing the sun just before sunset for example or at a moderate speed through the rain, they are not very comfortable at high speed but they provide a little extra protection in a few cases.

Especially on a rainy night when your visibility is reduced and the light of incoming vehicles gets caught in by the drops on the visor... this bothers me very much if I am riding in a populated area with plenty of different sources of light, high beams, indicators, billboards etc.. maybe it's only me but sometimes riding in town at night I get temporarily blind for a second - not amusing - Lifting the visor doesn't always make it better as rain in your eyes can be uncomfortable too (beware of flying objects...).

With one of these peaked helmets I just bend my head forward so the peak lowers a bit becoming a shelter preventing the rain to hit my eyes.
In addition I wear a pair of "clear sunglasses" for cyclists (they have two sets of lenses you can easily and quickly interchange, one set dark for sun and one clear for night) with these on and with the peak lowered I can ride safely during a rainy night with the visor up enjoying the a clearer view, the breeze and still be protected from rain and flying darts... it only works a moderate speed, though.

By the way, while in Europe these peaked helmets are quite common, here in the UK they seem to be a rarity, apart from the exxxxpensive:eek3: Arai I can only find the Hybrid HJC dual sport (cheap, cheap - £90 off eBay.co.uk), does anybody know if there is an alternative apart from motocross lids that come without visor?

Airoh and Vemar also do peaked helmets with visors that are quite a bit cheaper than the Arai.

Having looked at them I'm biting the bullet to go for an Arai. It's alot of money but the build quality seems to be alot better - and I've only got one head!

Can't disagree with Mermaid; have tried various makes of helmet over the years (haven't we all!) and the Arai seems to fit my head shape best + some cheaper helmets just have not been comfortable after a time, even though they seemed to fit at first - compression of the padding occurs over time.
Haven't got a Tour X yet but will look at them when the next Arai is purchased.

Thank you, that’s great. I have tried both Airoh and Vemar, probably Airoh S4 is what I will be buying (£95 del incl here: Airoh S4 Matt Black - £84.99 : Chase Superbike Centre Limited, Motorcycle Accessories ).
Arai’s are way toooo expensive, OK they may be comfortable but for the same price of the Tour-X model I can buy an Airosh, a set of new tyres for my XTZ and still have some cash left, it makes a big difference for me. If it turns out to be a bad choice I will write again here back from my ½ (half) RTW.
