Free Standing Tent - All weathers

The Big trip is coming up.

I'm looking for a light weight 3 man (for two people + Bike gear) tent.

Every one seems to recomend a free standing tent for an extended trip (so you can erect on hard ground). We will be in the tropics and very high mountain ranges on this trip.

Price range is £150 - £250 (willing to pay a little more if there is somthing brilliant out there)

Lightweight all weather sleeping bags are also on the shopping list so recomedations are great.

Light weight and small pack size are important factors to consider with both tent and sleeping bag.

Hi,
All my biggest problems with tents over the years have always been wind related, if you're going to be at altitude, you've got to assume it'll get a touch blowy.
I'm looking for a new tent too after our last one was flattened by the wind in a river bed in W Sahara.
I went camping a few weeks back with my sister and was seriously impressed by her Coleman Phact 2. We were on the cliffs and the wind was howling, it never even fluttered. You can pay silly money for 'mountain' tents, but the Phact looks like a quality copy. Can be had for just under £100

There's a surprising amount of room inside, I think it'll be my next purchase. They do the same thing in 3 man if you need a bit more space.

Happy travels

I have a 2 man vango. they make it in 3 man too. Granted I haven't used it in high winds, but it has survived a couple of good thunderstorms so far with no leakage. Packs to a fair size and is cheap!! Cheap was key for me, and I am happy with it....

I can recommend Tarp tent by Henry Shires, I have the Scarp 2 with the crossing poles, spent 30 days in Alaska this summer it proformed excellent!
The hog back is the 3 man version. Made in the USA too!! Very light and strong with some great features not found on other tents Check it out.

When carrying on a bike I like to carry poles and pegs in another bag so as not to rub the main tent through vibrations.

Yes Sir just the ticket, easily the best tent I have owned. The shipping from California to Canada was $35.00 by mail. I know he has sent many to the UK. Henry answers his emails and shipped mine a day after purchase.
Cheers Cal
