Coleman Feather 442 Duel Fuel stove

Does anybody now who sell (dealership or agent)the coleman duel stove in South Africa? I need to buy some parts for my trip through Africa.:helpsmilie:

Coleman Feather 442 stove

I bought mine on E bay for $30, but it does'nt produce a blue flame. Any suggestions? :confused1:

Bash it on the ground a bit (look out for the legs) or take it apart and clean the brass tube on the inside. If that will not do the trick you need to take the thing apart and clean up under the burner unit the hole thing can use a cleaning I think.

Sounds like its carbon or a bit of dirt fouling up your stove.

Hooli 11 Jan 2009 22:47

when mine arrived in the post the brass tube over the burner was slightly out of line. looking closely as it ran i could see the fuel missing the gap into the burner & dripping down the body of the cooker. a bit of tweaking later & its perfect.

oh & coleman fuel is shit. it doenst light, doesnt get hot & costs a fortune. mine much prefers unleaded.

DAVSATO 12 Jan 2009 17:45

i never tried mine with white fuel (kerosene, colemans, call it whatever) since it can be used with unleaded so whats the point of having this sort of stove and still carrying around two sorts of fuel? you might as well take a propane stove, it'll be a lot cleaner.

on unleaded mine went like a rocket

I bought two at the same time, I only used one for my first few trips alone, and the flame was always blue and hot, when I took the second stove on a trip with my wife, this stove runs with a much yellower flame and does not get as hot until after lots more pumping.
I can not see any physical difference except about two months between the batch dates, I guess there are friday afternoon stoves every week !

I have now numbered them to make sure I take the best 1 in future

I'm using a 442 but its lost its control on it though ie its on or off , the advantage of using stuff like Panel wipe (which is naptha) is that its super clean burning you toss some petrol on the a concrete flag and burn it it leaves a thick sooty residue.

Naptha leaves no trace of the burn.

I'm bringing along 2 litres of Naptha (about £3.50) to run through the stove every now and again to clean it up. Since I'm already carrying a petol can it shouldn't be an issue.

Wadi - similar problem here.

How did you get along? any tips for me.

Hooli, if youre still reading this - what do you mean by out of line? theres a clamp holding the generator in place, and I dont see how it could be in the wrong position.

Lastly, is there supposed to be anything between the generator end and the base of the circular ring thing? (I only have a couple of cotton / asbestos type blocks) theres no 90 degree angle feeder tube directing the air fuel to the burner.

I have also posted a query on another heading too.

Thanks G

Oh, and once lit and running how long does it run for before needing additional pumping? I am hoping it somehow self generates the pressure, but I am kind of guessing not.

yep it work with unleaded but

yep it work with unleaded but have any of you thought about the sheep they put in real unleaded gas? the stuff ads go on and on about in for shell etc gas. Some of that sheep is toxic to us humans . Me I want a side bacon and a coffee without something that in long run might be bad for me. I mean the fumes.
