Question Brand opinion: Fjäll Räven. Decent kit or not?
The best stocked outdoor store that I know of have some of this kit. It seems very nice, but is priced accordingly. In other words it is expensive!!

Still, I do like to get quality kit when I can, if it will serve a purpose.

For example I noticed their poncho: it is nicely made but they ask £80!!!

So, generally speaking, are Fjäll Räven a decent brand?

IMO, to expensive for what they offer. Like many things on this world, you can find other very good products for only a fraction of price for "brand" products.

I have their zip-off pants (still do not know why i bought them at that price! ). I also have another pair of no-name zip-off pants.

This other pair is still going strong after five years of abusing. The cut is also good and it was only one-third of the Fjall Raven price. And it serves its purpose very well.

So, it is up to you. For me, the more equipment i buy, the more i know what i am looking for. And this brings me to the no-name products that cost only a fraction and offer very good quality and durability in comparison to the "branded" products.

Frankly, i find that the "branded" prices for out-door products have gone up to much in recent years!

Well, I do not buy brands for the name, but I do buy them for the quality.

It seems that what I have seen looks nicely made, but hard to know how it might fair in day-to-day use. Like you say, the price is impressive...

Certainly, Ferrino make a similar model at about 60% of the price although still not cheap: about £45!!
Not quite as smart looking, but a poncho is a poncho, not evening wear!!

Can't comment on the poncho but I have some Fjellreven-products and I'm very pleased with it. The products are solid, zippers last for a long time etc.

I've had a lot of no-brand tour-products but often it's more expensive in the long run. I've seen people with serious frostbites caused by cheap clothes.

I agree that £80 for a poncho is ridiculous, but it is a very well-made product. I bought one as a birthday present for my mother, and she took one look at it and said "it makes me look fat", and never wore it. I now use it alot. The only drawback is the price, and they are not too clever in strong wind.

I lied! Albeit unintentionally!

I actually works out a little over £65.
It feels like very good quality and being virtually a single piece of material there are no seams to go wrong.

Nonetheless, it is just a poncho.

Having said that I am really getting to like ponchos.
Not really used them much but starting to see their virtues: very comfy in the rain and far airier. More so than a rain jacket, for me.
