Bottled Gas in Russia

Can anyone advsise whether you can get refilable 6/7kg gas bottles in Russia, which can then be refilled throughout Russia (and potentially Mongolia and the stans)?

We have capacity for 2 bottles and are contemplating taking 1 lightweight propane calorgas bottle and leaving space for a russian one, but would need to be around the same size.

I dont see why not.

Propane is available for refilling your own cylinders almost everywhere in Russia (often just outside towns - for safety). We use a large cylinder for cooking at dacha (I can hardly lift it - maybe 50KG?).
I'll check out available cylinder sizes in the next few days with approx cost.

Are connection/fitting to a universal standard across the World?

gas in Russia

I beleive that the regulator on a UK Calorgas bottle is different to anywhere else and therefore cannot be refilled outside of the UK. I have heard talk of an adapter that enable any gas bottle to be filled, but the process sounds dangerous. Hence my thoughts about purchasing one in Russia, but 6 or 7kg max (240mm wide by 500mm high) I can go higher but no wider.

But only for 10 minutes?

I'll check out costs and availability - probably next weekend.

I know nothing about gas or connectors etc but I can photograph what they do here and Email them with a few basic measurments if you PM me your E-address.

I have just been to a branch of Твой Дом (Your Home), a good middle market 'house and garden' type chain of superstores. Probably comparable to John Lewis for quality but with far larger stores with a much wider range extending to pools, garden machinery etc.

In the patio section I found re-fillable propane bottles (for heaters and BBQ grills). The smallest they had was 12Ltr costing 1,070
