Best place to buy riding gear in Asia

We are in Thailand at the moment and planning to ride around asia, our next stop will be Vietnam and are wondering whether we would be better off buying riding gear here in Bankok or Hanoi?

Neither Thailand & Vietnam has any fair prices on good safetyequipment.
Singapore is the place to get that kind of stuff in SEA.
Take a look at GT Riders forum

The sad part is that whilst a lot of good bike gear is made in Vietnam, and exported, it is impossible to buy it locally.

I found the same thing riding through China - I could not find a visor to suit my Chinese made helmet, nor buy a cigarette lighter plug to plug my GPS into.

Dont listen to these oyher people if you already have boots and helmets (recommended) go to Hanoi Towers in Hanoi and on the ground floor shopping area there is a place everyone calls the Russian shop ,lots of textile riding jackets a and pants for around 50 USD each.

There are a number of bike shops and even bike apparel shops in Bkk. Check the GTR link above. If memory serves me right then we bought our stuff at Mr T Bike and Paddock Pro Shop.

If you're in BKK try this shop: Welcome to Dirt Shop Thailand.
They have a bit of everything and can hook you up with what you need. They are also an Ohlins approved dealer and rebuilt by tired ohlins rear shock for less than $100usd. Cool shop! H.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
