Seriously, you don't need a fancy one.

Buy one of those plastic storage / lunch boxes with the 4 x flip down clasps.

Buy some foam or use some old carpet underlay glued to the base and lid.

This works VERY well, is way cheaper and takes up less luggage space...

Pelican - make sure it's REALLY waterproof

There 1st gen cases were not. I know - I warrantied it when I could blow air through it.

Very good against shock but . . . it's better to have a machine with no moving parts and a robust frame . . . the MacBook Air is cheap, small and stupid robust.

I had one in a soft case on the back of my KTM for 12,000 miles and regularly ripped across the Mongolian steppe among other places at 140kph.

This note is being typed on that machine.

No problems at all.

This year I'll use an iPad with a Touchfire keyboard. Under 1 pound, 9 hours of battery life and photos, blog, etc easily updated.

For every £20 you save on prep, it's an extra day on the road...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
