Red face Barbour Mitts

Hi there this is Linda, now in Oz.

For the last 20 years I have been trying to track down some Barbour Mitts. they are waxed cotton over mitts and used to be all the rage when I fist started motorcycling in UK in the 60's. I held on to mine until just before my trip, although they were much patched and almost useless in keeping out water. then, to my absolute delight my friend, Kees, in Holland donated me a pair that he had had in his cupbord for many years. I was ecstatic! they kept my hands warm and dry all through the worst wet and cold, even up the KKH. Then some little bastard in India nicked them and I cant find more any anywhere, not even on Google or Ebay.
Has anyone got any hidden away that need a good home with me?
Please email me if you do. And can anyone persuade Barbour or Belstaff to start making them again?
Safe riding
Linda

As it happens I have recently bought a pair on eBay UK , so they do still turn up from time to time . Sory I don't want to let mine go ,but I'll keep an eye out for you as I'm looking for a Belstaff/Barbour wax jacket and visit flea bay regularly .
Best of luck !

Good arn't they?

You can buy them here .. made in OZ .. Walden Miller do one .. but I cannot find then on their site http://www.waldenmiller.com.au/gloves.html
and another mob in Tasmania do similar. Sorry don't remeber the name.. May be both of those have gone too?

The Kiwis (New Zealanders) do a nylon over mitt .. Andy Strapz imports them .. don't think they'll go 20 years though.

You could try the Ulesseys club AGM - they have trade stalls where usefull things turn up.

Belstaff are now owned by an Italian group and the jackets are fashion garments. I bought a Barbour waxed jacket last year - wore it down to Spain / Italy. Not a good idea - everything got covered in melted wax. I remember now why my mother used to stop me sittting around the house wearing one many years a go.

Belstaff do still make bike gear as well as the fashion stuff .
I too have a Barbour International jacket and love it , but I'm currently on the lookout for another slightly larger one as my present one has mysteriously shrink [ mostly around the waist ] - can't understand how that may have happened !

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
