Argentina/Chili Motor Clothes Shops?

Hello,

Somewhere December 2010-January 2011 I am planning to start a motorcycle trip in Argentina or Chili going all the way North to Columbia.

The bike I have to buy overthere (I am not shipping mine).

As I am going first to Haiti for 2 months and climbing the Aconcagua, I will not be carrying my motorbike protective clothes.

Therefore my question: can I find decent (and affordable) protective gear in Chili or Argentina (jacket, breathable pants for desert areas, helmet,...)? Any addresses?

Thanks!

Bart

Gear and stuff

Having done the southern version of this trip I have left my moto in Buenos Aires at Dakar Motos until I return in Dec, and I would bet that they could be fantastic help to you in gearing up for this trip. They are great people.

Please be sure that you will in fact be able to buy and register a moto in Arg (or Chile) and have the correct paperwork to travel with throughout SA.
As a Canadian I tried to do this recently and didn't find the procedure to be simple or viable, never mind confidence inspiring. Ask detailed questions.

Spending the money seems to be the easy part but getting the proper docs to travel with is not so simple.

BA is a huge modern city and finding gear and bikes shouldn't be a problem though.

Bart !

Can i get in touch with you ? We are planning our motortrip to Chili/Argentina , leaving october 2012, buying motorcycle in Chili ... thus looks like same story you had/still have?! If you don't mind, I love to share some thoughts about buying the motorcicle in Chili ! As we are climbers, we would also travel through Patagonia to feel some rocks on our hands

Best regards,

Lien (Belgium)

in Chile (Santiago & Osorno), 'Motoaventura' sells bike gear and maybe you'll even be able to rent it there (they do rent out travel bikes etc.)
Not cheap though....
Nice stores, very helpful.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
