All weather/all condition sleeping bag ?

Hello all,

I want to buy a GOOD sleeping bag for use at long distance trips. Will use sleeping bag nearly at all possible weather conditions. Rain, sun, snow, humid, dust, etc. I have a good tent for 3 season.

I am slim and feel cold more than a normal person. 42 Y/O.
I've looked at Joutsen 900, MacPac reflex and also Ajungilac. Not persuaded if I was going to decide the right way ! My questions:

* Goose down or synthetic?
* What should be normal use and extreme use level of celcius? (I guess -5 C for normal use suits)
* Sure it shouldn't take too much space !
* I can invest around 400 euro for this bag. What brand would you recommend? (my tops are Ajungilac, Joutsen, Mammut, Macpac).

Can you please share yor experiences !

All the best,

Samy

It all depends on the weather conditions.

Around 0°c snow/rain:
Your sleeping bag will probably get wet and might stay wet for days (it’s hard to dry things up in these conditions).
With synthetic you will have a fair chance to stay warm, with goose you will freeze.

Cold conditions:
Choose a sleeping bag that’s have a comfort temperature around the coolest temperature you expect.
Use a proper heat-reflecting sleeping-mat.

I have always used Ajungilak, other brands might be as good…

Forget the bulky all-season sleeping bag. Try an Exped Down-Mat, I use a 9 DLX (150 euro or less) coupled with a light two season sleeping bag (40 euros) and a silk liner (40 euros) for extreme cold or hot conditions.

My Dad has a snugpak bag (synthetic) he loves it. I have an ultra lightweight mac pak bag (down) that uses the sleeping mat as your insulation its ok but you will need to sleep in thermals if its icy out. I find my £12 cheapie warmer and not too much more bulky.

I think I would go with a synthetic bag thats light and pair it with a decent mat and silk liner then you only have to wash the liner.:scooter:
