Jofama Lindstrands clothing

My boyfriend, who is new to biking, is wanting to get himself a Jofama Lindstrands Graffitti jacket. He lives in London, but as Forth Gear up here in Edinburgh are stockists, I have the jacket with me to take down for him to try on.

And I have to say, it feels rather flimsy. If it was for me personally I'd say it's also too fiddly, but of course that's his decision. What I'm not sure about though is a) how durable it would be - the main zip in particular feels very cheap, and b) how good it would be in a crash - not only does it feel extremely lightweight, there's also nothing on the labelling indicating what about the fabric makes it abrasion-resistant, indeed barely a mention that it is.

A quick look on the web and on the HUBB has found bits of info, most of which is a bit confusing as there appear to be 3 companies, Jofama, Lindstrands and Halvarssons, which always get mentioned in the same breath. But nothing gives any info about the level of protection for anything other than the Safety Suit.

Has anyone got any experience of the brand with regards to safety? Other comments also welcome of course!

Thanks

Laura

I got myself a Lindstrands Jacket and Pants similar to the Graffitti (don't have it here right now, so can't tell you the exact model) and took it on the Enduromania and another (roughly) 8000km through eastern europe.

The upside was the truly excellent ventilation. Had a couple of low speed spills doing offroad and went down with about 30km/h in Bulgaria as well. No Problems with the jacket.

The pants on the other hand where not so good, the Goretex liner broke almost immediately so I had to sit on the Autobahn with a wet crotch for a full day. Next to fail was indeed the main zipper on the pants (it appears to be the same make&model as on the jacket. Had to get it botched by a Romanian tailer who did a messy job and then again here in Germany.

My conclusion: I feel for the money involved there's better stuff to be had (Rev'it comes to mind). The jacket still is pretty flawless albeit dirty, but I like to zipper jacket and pants together, better protection and better fit. Breaking pants spoil that for me...

Your experience might be different, though.

Oh and yeah, as I understand it Jofama, Lindstrands, Halvarssons are pretty much the same company, just marketing slightly different stuff under different labels.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
