Just a heads up to a product that is very relevant to bodgers.
Outdoor types | sugru | Hack Things Better
Its an air curing silicone dough that is very useful.
I have this and would recommend it +1
Being a little curious about this product, I contacted them and received links below to PDF documents.
Sugru Technical Data sheet
Material Safety Data sheet
With a claimed temperature range of -50 degrees to +150 degrees Centigrade, that rules out use as a cylinder head gasket!
It is also said to have 'excellent' adhesive properties to aluminium, steel and butyl rubber which could be handy. I'm wondering how it would fare as a temporary fuel tank repair plug? ****** see 'test' below
If there are any specialist on here that could interpret the data in layman's terms, that would be great!
And it would be interesting to hear if anyone here has used it, on how/what for etc.
I used some of that Stuff on my last trip around Europe in the summer.
Taking a photo at the top of the Transfargarrasn.....whatever the hell its called and turned back to see my Arai Tour X slowly starting to roll down the rather steep hill. It stopped after about 30 metres but had smashed all those little air vent casings on the back.
Basically I managed to sculpt new vents and even made little scoops to force in more air as well.
I will post a photo as soon as I can locate one for you.
I tried 2 uses.
1- was to make a repair on the back of my headlight wiring (not pretty as first time use! bur it works)
It does not seem to conduct electricity. (thank goodness!)
I took a brittle can cap, drilled it and cracked it all along the bottom.
Made a Sugru blob both sides and let cure for 20 hours.
I then filled the cap with petrol and left it standing for 48 hours
It did not leak - the larger bit on the bottom stayed put- the piece on the inside lifted a bit but not enough to make a leak.
That was probably me not pushing down hard enough to make a good flat seal.
Good stuff . Thanks for the heads up Huan:thumbup1:
