Inner tires : wonderfull stuff

hello
I always have a lot of inner tyres with me (bicycle, small motorbike), perfect to fix (soft)luggage
Cut in small pieces they are perfect fixators for any part of the bike

Having carb problems in Siberia, a mechanic did broke ( 3 cm gap)the rubber connection between the engine and the carb of my XT 600

Using a 5 cm ring of a inner tyre of a small motorbike I did fix it!
I took off the carb, rolled the ring of this tyre over the remaining original rubber on the engine, put the carb back on , and stretched the ring over the (broken)rubber part !

The gap was now covered and the bike worked wel, we traveled to Ulan Bator...no problem at all for anothe 2000 Km

take some inner tyres, incredibly usefull stuff.

Ho Polly,
I totally agree, wonderful stuff Inner tubes have saved my day more then once. Here are a few more ideas what you can do with them:
  • Using as temporary seals: I fixed the sealing of a lost oil drain screw with it
  • To repair holes in inner tubes: a piece of tube can be used instead of a proper patch, e.g. when you run out of them
  • Cut in little rings the are much stronger then normal rubber rings
Cheers Patrick

Inner tubes -another name for them

Rubber bands
These also make excellent rubber bands.

Cut on a diagonal for longer lengths - or get a larger tube ... you may find truck inner tubes beside the road or at a tyre repair place.

Bungee
A bicycle inner tube can be used as a bungee...

Gasket
Need a rubber gasket? Find an area on the tube without ridges and cut that out to suit.
