Clutch cable bodge

Here's a good one to keep in mind when the top end of your clutch cable snaps off. All you need is some duct tape and vice grips. It'll get you where you need to go.

It looks like you duct taped the vice grips directly to the clutch lever ???

Good idea. I havent come across that before :thumbup1:

Well then it wouldn't be much of a "bodge" then would it?

And yes, the vice grip is taped on top of the clutch lever - awkward, but it works in a pinch.

Good work!!

Also 'works' when the leaver is broken in half. Vice grip whatever is left of the leaver and use gently.

If you don’t have something else, what could be better than secure the cable with some pieces of wire and a zip tie?

This is why I have a second cable(throttle and clutch)routed right next to the one being used with the ends plugged and well oiled before big trips or when going somewhere a replacement is hard to come by. If the current one breaks, just swap over.
Piles of quality zipties can do miraculous things to get you home.

I had some of these but when it came to the crunch, (at gunpoint in front of a very sensitive Iranian military building), they didn't fit my cable even if I cut a fresh section..

better to cable tie a spare whole cable in place from the start..
