Useless F650 Dakar side stand

Has anyone got any suggestions to modify the side stand to reduce the angle of lean when the bike is loaded with luggage.

Have added a Wunderlich stand raiser but it still seems too lean too far.

cheers

Julio

Hi Julio,

You can always use google or any other search engine, like I did when I first got my bike, there is a wealth of knowlegde out there.

What other mods have you made to your bike, my site is F650 Ride the World - A journey of Global Proportions you can have a look at what I've done to my little one.

I fitted a block extension, has the benefit of increasing the 'footprint' as well as lengthening the stand. Can't remember if it's touratech or somner, but it does the job ok. The original is the same length as the lower F650gs, how silly. Can't even photograph it for you till next week as by Dakar's poorly-bad at the menders with bent bottom yoke, bars and the usual head bearings.
The block is about 30mm deep, with a recess for the existing foot to fit into, with 3 screws which overlap the foot to hold it to the block.
If you still looking next week when I get my bike back I'll post a piccie.

Works OK on my wife's bike; hers' is as low as they go!
I never noticed; just thought that BMW were that thoughtful they had altered the side stand when they lowered the bike in the factory, so thanks for that explanation.

not sure if it would work with any other bike, but i welded a short (3 inches?) length of box section to the foot of my cub to reduce the lean angle, again, it lengthened the footprint and added an inch of height.

Side Stand

The problem is really bad when you fill the front fuel tanks right up, the front wheel almost pivots when you are loaded with luggage even with a 30mm side stand raiser.

It would only be a matter of time before it buckled with the weight. It looks like the are two options to fix it, 1) lemgthen the stand or 2) change the angle so it is steeper and the lean is less. Will have do do more homework on which is the better option.

I got my side stand and pegs done by Ernie from Overland Solutions. Much better than the standard and has a bigger footprint too. See photos of my bike on my website at:
