Tyre choice for S America

Hi all,

I'm wondering what the best choice of tyres would be for S America. Here are my requirements:

- Loaded bike, possibly 2-up
- No serious off-roading but time on gravel roads where needed.
- Reasonable amount of time on proper roads

The question really is whether to use a road tyre (e.g. Tourance) or whether I should be using TKC80s or similar for that type of trip in that part of the world.

Anyone feedback from anyone with experience of S American roads appreciated.

Tourances, or some other long wearing tire. TKC 80s and similar will wear too fast, you'll be replacing them long before you'd have to replace a touring tire, and you won't find them. Since you know you won't be going off pavement except on the odd occasion, longer lasting touring tires are the only sensible thing.

As quastdog typed, the sun will probably rise in the east tomorrow.
That's obvious...

Well I guess it depends what you call "pavement" :-) Ha ha.

Many miles will be on dirt roads, maybe some quite rough and tarmac might be rare in some places.

Hmm, I think the Tourances are probably still the best compromise though yes.
