TKC Alternatives

Are there any decent alternatives for the Conti TKCs for the 11xxGS for off road? (without going down the 21" front wheel route)

Thanks for any tips

David

Heidenau K60s, do a similar job and last much longer.

Tire

I saw somewhere a review where they seems to say that the HK60 was great off road but a bit uncertain on road, what is your personal experience , what about on wet road. I am planning my next RTW and 2 up on my 1150 ADV I will consider them especially for the Africa part.

I'm looking for tyres that are going to be used primary off road so I might give those a try (I have another set of wheels with the road tyres on)

Many Thanks,

David

My opinions: I think they are as good or better than TKCs on gravel roads and hard packed dirt (95% of general off road touring riding). TKCs have the edge in mud. K60s are similar on dry asphalt and TKCs are better on wet asphalt.

Overall I think you get a tyre that does the main tasks of an adventure touring tyre, as good or better than the TKC (dry asphalt and gravel roads) and will offer twice the life.

From what I have read the Heidenau's are the tire to use. Several riders on Advrider and UKGser swear by them for longevity and traction. IMHO, taking a big GS into mud should be avoided as much as possible anyway.
I am using Shinko's right now but for my long trip this summer I will get the Heidenau's..
