Mileage from an 1150GS

Hi,

I have a 2001 1150GS. The bike has 40,000 miles, which I think is about 60,000km. I bought the bike seconhand but it did have a service history, which I have kept up with. I currently do about 6,000 miles a year and always look after the bike. I ride nice and steady. Never go above 80 mph and my riding is never above 5,000rpm!

Well, as always, after you've owned a bike for a year or so you think you need a change!! I'm tempted to get a loan for the new 12GSA next year?

Question, If i decide to keep my bike then what could I expect to go wrong in the near future? How many miles could I reliable expect?

I do like to look after and maintain by bikes but I'm not so keen if major things start to fail.

Thanks if you have any comments.

I have 143k kms on my '00, and the only "problem" has been a sticky clutch spline at 100k. Er, and a corroding fork brace ("they all do that, sir") The bike is running as strongly as ever ; in fact, I'd reckon it's only just starting to loosen up nicely !

Thats pretty cool Lkyphl. I can easily end up talking myself into a new bike when one is not needed. I could be tempted to go the other extreme and see how many miles I can get out of my currect bike!

I had a look on UKGSER as Squidbrain suggested and I found an article where some guy in the status had I think 256,000 on the clock. Very impressive!

Bought my 1150GS on 29/05/04 with 24,000 miles on the clock, now on 47,150m.

Service it myself every 6,000m. Only thing needed replacing so far was the left hand cam chain tensioner at 35,500m. Other than that, it's still going strong.

I now work at a BMW dealership (North Oxford Garage Ltd - 01865-319070 if anyone's passing & needs a coffee). I know of an '02 1150 that's on about 61,000m. We also have a customers P-reg ('97?) 1100GS on 118,000m that we're waiting for him to pick up.
