Spares to carry for F650GS twin?

I thought I'd try this again as I got no replies when I posted recently. If it's a stupid question, maybe someone could tell me why it's a stupid question...:confused1:

I'm going to be travelling for a year in Latin America and I wondered if anyone could give me the benefit of their experience in terms of what tech issues they have had when touring. I figure I should carry a couple of spark plugs, bulbs, control levers and cables, tubeless repair kit, oil and air filters....

Are there are some bits that are specific to the 650 twin that tend to go?

Are some of my list unnecessary/optional? Obviously I want to travel as light as possible. And I will be passing major towns here and there where I could get some bits I'm guessing - would you be able to get the filters from stock in some of the capital cities of South America, for example?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Seems to be a good starting point. There are some pretty comprehensive spares and tool lists out there for many different bikes so if you can search and find a couple, they may trigger items that initially you may not have considered. (You can search HU using google as well).

In general, you can get your bike serviced in many countries including Colombia, Chile, Argentina, etc. where they have dealers in at least the capital cities and therefore some general parts are usually available but certainly not as broad or deep a selection as available in your home country.

Specifically, I assume you have crash bars, skid plate and if you add hand guards you won't need spare levers. The rest of your list can be modified, some use a reusable oil filter like K&N and therefore avoid carrying spares. Grab or download a Clymer manual so you can figure out how to repair certain problems yourself if necessary. Happy riding.

for some reason the system burns out bulbs. Consider switching to HID which are brighter as well. Don't buy above 5000, the temptation is to go higher but its outside of the human spectrum.
