Soft Panniers for a 12GS ??

Does anyone have any experience / recomendation for "soft" panniers that would fit a BMw 12gs?

I know that the BMW expandable plastic ones are Big and easy to use but they do cost 450 GBP. so I am after a cheaper option.!!

thanks simmo I got a set of expedition panniers and they are excellent both in terms of quality and usability (large and waterproof) but they don't fit the GS, the left pannier rests on the exhaust..

solid panniers is my only option.
(Unless I fit pannier frames.!!)

Hi George,

I had the same problem fitting soft panniers onto my bmw r 80 G/s, which in the end I solved simply by bolting an aluminium sheet onto the luggage rack on the exhaust side, and folding it over and around the exhaust so that it rests on the frame just under the seat. The weight of my panniers is supported mainly by the seat so they just lean on the aluminium sheet, which doesn't touch the exhaust itself, and stays at a comfortable temperature, even in hot weather.

I forgot to mention that this might be of interest...as well as being a ridiculously simple way to use soft panniers with a high mounted exhaust without having a luggage frame: (I just wonder if it really works)

In italian but shouldn't be hard to figure out...They used "porcelain fiber" to make a heat proof cushion, and claim that it gave no problms..even after numerous falls....

George, I think simple light metal frame to stop things melting would be a good idea, you can also use them to haul your bike around if need be. I wouldnt expect they would be expensive or difficult to make and powder coated black wouldn't look out of place. I wouldn't use the BMW plastic panniersif I had the choice.
