Rotor and regulator R80GS Basic

Currently in Lusaka, Zambia, and my rotor has broken (winding is broken not shortened to ground).

The diodeboard is still ok but I have not found a way to test the regulator. Does it usually fail when the rotor fails?

The bike is 550 km away so I will like to bring the correct parts back.

Cheers,
AliBaba - With his first breakdown ever after 105.000 km

You can test the regulator by putting a wire bridge between the two connectors of the voltage regulator plug. The plug looks like a T or a pyramid, depending on how you hold it. Connect the lower two when the plug looks like a pyramid. With the bridge in place, start the engine and see if the voltage goes up with the RPM. If it does, the rotor and other parts work. If the voltage stays stable with the plug in the voltage regulator as you vary the RPM, the regulator works.

Since you have a dead rotor, there is nothing you can do except change the rotor.

if the rotor winding has broken/gone open-circuit then there will be no alternator output.there "should" be no damage to the regulator .
hope this helps,
