Removing Shock
 

Can anyone describe what's involved in removing the shock on an F650GS, '02. This is for refurbishment or replacement. Is it a practical DIY job? Linzi.

I've not worked on a Dakar but shovk removal shoudn't be too hard?

Resting the bike on a centre stand or enduro style bike stand will make it easier. You'll probably be able to drop the shock out through the underside of the bike past the linkage.

Thanks for the reply. I checked f650.com and f650.co.uk and one of them describes the job. So it seems it is a DIY job. Apparently, with the linkages off, it can be removed easily. I had expected it to need to be compressed to remove as in a car but not so. Linzi

Took my wifes off at the weekend, about an hours work. I just kept removing stuff until I could get to the upper mounting, this included the fuel tank but I'm led to believe that if you remove the lower subframe mounts and loosen the upper ones the SB can be hindged up to access the upper mount.

Thanks, I took a look in at the situation of the shock and was intimidated. The twin shock setup on my Moto Guzzi is like a pit stop change! Incidentally, is restoring damping action practical and cheap please? Linzi.

Practical yes, cheap NO waiting for the WP shock £640 ouch
