Rear Shock For R100GS - progressive 420

Does anyone have any experience with the progressive 420 rear shock as a replacement for the stock shock? A dealer has suggested that this is the way to go on my 92 R100GS (note: I use this bike 85% on paved road 10% “other” road and 5% off). Also I am a lightweight guy 145 lbs but sometimes ride two up and packed).

Thanks!

To be honest, I have never heard from anyone with the Progressive shock on a GS. However, as a rule of thumb an aftermarket shock should be an improvement over the stock setup, which was not notably great. If I were you, I'd shop around on the net for alternatives before making a purchase. In the US Works Performance and Fox are good alternatives. From Europe WP is common. Ohlins is well respected as the premium setup, but pricy and there may be a wait. About price, from my research there are no truely cheap alternatives so you might as well get a good one. The rest is in choosing what features you want, which are incremental costs added to the base shock body with most manufacturers. Don't take one person's advise, look around. I ended up with a Technoflex shock which I have been happy with. I would recommend talking with Works Performance, as they have a good rebuild program and do custom springs to fit your weight and riding style.
