R850GS for two up
 

Hello, I´m looking into buying a bike for touring with my girlfriend, and am considering a 1999 BMW R850GS to do it. Reason being I can´t stretch my budget to a 1150, Varaderos aren´t really appealing, and 1100 seem to have gone to Mars and back.

I weight 95kg naked, she weights about 70kg, plus luggage, will we be OK using an R850GS? I´ve done a lot of miles on a 650 Transalp but never with a passenger, for solo riding the Transalp was enough for me. We did take a DL650 for a 250km spin on country roads the other day and found the power adequate (no luggage).

Bike will be used to visit Morocco, sticking to tarmac or smooth surfaces, and to tou Europe.

I think the R850 will be fine for the job, the original owner of my airhead R80G/S did a four year around the world trip with his wife on the back and that was good enough, it a pleasure trip not a race.

It´s not the holiday riding that concerns me the most, more so the long weekly motorway rides at 130/150 kmh.
