R80 basic panier rack
 

I have fitted the standard BMW hard luggage rack to my bike. I recently fitted a stainless silencer and the lower ARM of the rack bolts to a welded lug on the silencer. This seems to potentialy put a lot of stress on this lug and silencer. As the lug is stainless welding it back is not a straightforward job. I am aware of the limitations of using this luggage system anywhere other than tarmac. Has anyone had any problems with this ?

The standard exhaust is robust and can take a lot of beating, I've never heard of any problems.
I have used various racks for approx 180kkm and never had a problem with the silencer.

The standard rack is weak, I used one for 20kkm without problems but I didn't like it.
