R1200GS Adventure Exhaust systems

Thinking about an upgrade. Have researched the crap out of full systems and now am looking for some insight and experience.

Looking for a muffler and header set.

Sound is an issue as I do not want to add too much db's but mainly looking for a performance increase and a weight saving.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Why?

For what it's worth . . In the last few years I've had a Harley, Daytona, Blackbird and now a GS. Guys talk about getting that extra better sound, a bit more performance etc, but is it really worth it for the $$$$'s.
I don't really think it is. The bikes I've had perform just as good stock standard. Spend the money on something more worthwhile.

Thanks for the reply.

I am considering price for sure in the decision and if I figure it is just too much will not do it. I do however think that whether it is worthwhile or not is pretty subjective. As, in my experience a good exhaust adds exponentially to a bikes performance. I would list it at 1 - suspension 2 - tires 3 - exhaust... then maybe a good seat. And, points 1, 2 and 3 are the cheapest made most poorly functioning factory items on most bikes. I don't want the sound that was the purpose of the post. And, the gs exhaust with the catalytic right under the tranny adds a huge heat sink to the bike that I can do without.

Thanks for the point of view.

Exhaust System from HPN

Check out this system from HPN in Germany. They use this for the BMW factory racing HP2's. It fit the R1200GS as well. Their site is hpn once you are on the site, click on the HP2 link, it will lead you to the HP2 stuff of which a lot will fit the R1200GS as well.

Don't know if you have looked at Metal Mule (see link below), but they have a specialist exhaust system for your Adventurer.

Whilst I do not have any experience of it directly, I have read some very good comments on it and their other systems developed for XT660, etc.

I have personal experience with some of there other products which built to a very high specification and have really taken some serious hammer recently. I have no doubt that there exhaust will be just as good.

Thanks for the info - it really helps.

I had never thought of Metal Mule but the stuff is very good and the HPN items are intriguing as I see a few more things I would want to get too.

So - thanks a bunch.
