R1200C wont start

Hi,

Friend of mine called. He was not too happy... he had lifted off the tank. Done some maintenace. Put the tank back, reconnecting fuel and electrical connections. His R1200C refuses to start afterwards.

We checked sparks, fuel pump, etc - all works... but no fuel passes through the injectors...
Fuses are ok.

Any ideas what may have happened?
Engine did work fine before the tank was lifted off.

Ok - this does not happen; so what the ... happened?!
Any ideas?

there's a very good R1200c forum, I think chromeheads.org, I would ask there.

Not sure about the R1200C, but I know that with other BMWs sometimes when you take off the tank the throttle cables get screwed up, resulting in the kind of problem you describe--you may just have to re-seat the throttle cables properly.

Seconded.

Tell your friend to check that the throttle cables are both properly seated in the threaded adjusters on the throttle bodies. They can get pulled out and the bike will not start if that happens!!

Thank you for your tips.

Hallo,

Sounds very easy- Fuel pump relay.
Commoc problem, especial after cleaning. If there's no electrical sound
of the fuel pump when the switch is turened ON, then it's the realy. It is located om top of the fuel fump assm. and has 3 wires go in...

Feed-back.

It starts now...

Fault - not know.

Remedy - tank was lifted off again. All plugs/sockets were checked again. All electrics did work ok, during all this. Nothing was found. The bike just refused to start. Smelling a lot of un-burnt petrol (= no spark of cause); reason for no spark not known, not found. This last tank-off check - refused to start prior to lifting the tank off, started after it was reinstalled(!)...

Ever seen any TexAvery cartoons? Seen the Wolf dropping his chin? ...that's us!

My idea on this:
- is it possible that there is a capacitator on some circuit board that may get jammed/locked electronically and need to be de-charged by disconnecting a socket sockets?
- I have had exactly such a problem with an electronic gadget some years back (sorry - forgotten what is was, could have been an IBM 386, speedo on an R80, radio in a car, etc - can't remeber...).

Thoughts on the matter?
