R100GS tire question

What would be a really good 100% road tire for this bike? Really sticky and good in rain. Never to be used off road.

Jaythro 12 Mar 2011 10:18

Bridgestone BT45R LinkGood Range and Really good adhesion even in the wet but thats on the roads by me

Or Metzeller Tourance Gives you a superb tyre with good adhesion and durability

If you do not drive faster than 180km/h and you need not to adhere to EU tire-regulations:
Svenska BMW MC Klubben • Visa trĂ¥d - Michelin M45
Michelin M45 is a surpricing tire. I have it on my R80 (1000cc converted) - like Pirelli Phantom on dry asfalt when driving in rain!!!
Never had any better tire on wet-surfaces.

Continental Super Twinn is what I would recommend as an alternative. The ribs-pattern gives a good rain-grip and gravel-grip. Romboid-patterns and arrow-patterns tend to get quite slippery on wet-surfaces and on gravel-roads. (My personal experience).
This is the original R75-90 tire.

Metzler Tyres

Greetings Tim

When we were travelling through the US we had a set of of Metzler Lasertec on our PD as I knew we would only be travelling on long stretches of tarmac. They worked well for us and are available in Oz.

+1

I always use Metzeler Tourances but not the EXP just the normal ones. Although their pattern is for 80%/20% Road/Off-Road they have very good traction in all conditions.

180kph is the top speed listed for a stock R100GS though l would never dare take mine up to that speed.

Another vote for Tourances, my rear has over 10,000 miles on it and theres still plenty of tread left, excellent road tyre.

Thanks for the response, people. I think I'll go for the Tourance's, they seem highly regarded.

tyres for r100 gs

i have found that the best ones for me have been mchelins, t66 mondials first but more recently i have been very happy with anakee's although they look like dual use tyre they are very good on the road and have a very good wear rate

Tim Wood 31 Mar 2011 14:00

T66's

The bike came with T66's. I found them lethal in wet weather. They wore very well but I guess that's why they didn't have much grip. The Tourances seem excellent.

I did post a full description - where is my text?!

How common is it that when one have written a text and clics on "submit reply" that >90% is omitted?
It is -quite- annoying!
