R 80 Gs Tyre Problem

Hi All,

Front tyre of my bike is going flatfrequently. It has a tubeless Metzeler Sahara tyre with no tube inside. It goes flat within a few hours. I've taken it to tyre repair shops (3 counted already) and they couldn't do anything.
They sandpaperedn rim, it didn't work; glued the rim, it didn't work. There is nothing wrong with the rim and the tyre and it is thrue size.

I know tyre repair people in my city is not very talented but I wonder if I miss something and if there is anything I can do?

I thought putting tubes inside the tyre, but this one should be last thing to do. I must solve the normal rinm/tyre problem first. My bike is a 97 R 80 GS Basic.

I need your comments pls.

Thanks

Pump it up to at least 4 Bar and put it in water, check for bubbles…

It might seem a bit too obvious but did they check the Valve?

Is the valve stem a right angled one? Points out to the side. I've had one of them flex at speed and leak .. took a while to figure that one out .. ok in the city but on the highway a flat tyre. If it is one then chack it does not move if you press it downward with one finger...

My r80 rt with cast wheels used to leak on teh front. I had the rim polished with a rotary wire brush in electric drill. It has fixed it. If I were you I would have teh rim cleaned the same. If you are using sealant and get a puncture, you will not be able to re-seal it. Also change the valve.. Then, if you still have a problem you cant find, you can either install a tube, or new tyre.. the tyre could have a hole that only leaks when flexed.

Tyre deflating

I've had the same problem on my R100GSPD with Metzeler Tourance tyres. There seemed to be no reason for the sudden deflation. I had the tyre replaced, and the new tyre was doing it as well. And then it suddenly stopped deflating.

Baffling. Is there some kind of fault that develops with Akront rims? The bike has done 85,000 miles.

I have only ever had alloy rims twice. first as go faster set on a ford car, and on my BMW bike. Both vehicles had sealing problems. I can only assume that the alloys used do not seal as well as painted steel. I would never choose tubeless tyres on alloy rims for that reason. Even now I have to check it frequently because over a month it is likely to have lost a little pressure. Oddly the rear is fine and does not leak at all. So, they can work, but do fail.

I recently had the same problem with my 100GS after an off-road excursion(planned) and when I poured water around the rim I found the slightest little air bubble coming from the rim. I put some tyreweld in it and went to Rhayader with the ADVrider group and done some off-roading there and another 2000 Km and there has been no more deflation problems.

solution but for some time

Hi friends,

I went around all competent people for this problem. No hole or problem with tyre and valve. At last one old repairmen told me to use foam spray can. It will plug the holes where air comes out.

I did it and no problem since 2 weeks.

Thank you all for sharing...
