Overland Tyres
 

We are doing the Cairo to Capetown run, we are riding F650gs twins, and would like recomendations on what tyres to use, we are going the traditional route with the mandatory off road escapades as well as some more. We have worked out the route will be approx 16500km.

do it on Heidenau K60s and they should make it all the way ... just

We went Munich to Cape Town on Metzeler Tourances on an F650GS (single) and an R100GS. We didn't do any serious off roading and found that knobbies would only have been useful in northern Sudan and northern Kenya. I think our total distance from Munich was about 23,000 km and the Tourances made that no problem. I don't believe that knobbies (even TKC80s) would make it that far and then you're forced to find tires somewhere in the middle of the trip.

Not sure if the Heidenau K60s will make it, but they seem to last longish and they are a sweet ride. I have them on my KTM 690 Enduro at the moment and they do give good confidence on the street and should handle gravel roads and pistes without too many problems.

On a twin the rear should last even longer than on a single.
