Newbie ABS Rear Brake Question
 

OK, before I start... I don't know much about bikes, I own a 1150 GS Adv. My first bike, you may now select one of the following:
1. Brave
2. Stupid

Good.. got that out of the way, now down to the question.
I recently had a puncture on my rear tyre, I took it to the local East end (London) garage, and they dutifully fixed it, but since then i feel like the rear ABS isn't functioning in the correct way, and tonight my suspicions were confirmed, as the rear locked up, as I braked in a turn, I eased off the brake, and re-applied, and all was OK, but the rear end did slide out a bit, it was dry here in London today, the mech, said that the ABS sensor had enough room, and that all he did was remove the brake unit, change the tyre, and then put the unit back, I even watched him do it all, so I can confirm that this is correct.
Any ideas what this could be, and if so how can I repair it, aside from going to BMW $$!

A "brave" choice for a first bike indeed, your insurance premium as a novice & living in London must be pretty impressive!

I have a non-ABS 1150 whilst my girlfriend has an ABS equipped 1150. She took hers to the local BMW dealer for a routine ABS check using diagnostic equipment - cost was less than £15.00. This should tell you what's wrong & the Dealer should then tell you how best to proceed from there.

Thanks Steve, She is a big bike for a first timer it's true, but I love her to bits, I was in Wales for an off-road course and was riding an F650 GS, came a cropper on that!
One other question, I notice a lot of the guys around here have different cans on theirs, somehow they sound more meaty, the trouble with riding in London, is no one hears you coming, does anyone have any suggestions for making my babe sound as good as she looks, without forking out over £300 for Reamus?

You can ditch the silencer & replace it with an aftermarket can. Remus is the most popular by far. You can also replace the collector box with built in Cat. Convertor with a stainless Y-piece. Replacing both will save quite a few kg.

Best bet is to look for second hand stuff in the For Sale & Wanted forum on the UKGS'er site that I posted a link to, they come up occassionally for reasonable prices.
