New fork stanchions, '82 RS

Any suggestions for replacing the stanchions on my 82 RS? Chassis no. (VIN) is 6079524 I'm thinking of replacing the fork oil with the standard SAE 5 with a 50/50 mix of SAE 5 and SAE 10. Worth the bother or do I stick to SAE 5?
Thanks
J

Go for 7.5 wt for sure. You may even want to try straight 10 as an experiment.

Don't understand "replacing stanchion- suggestions"

Are you wanting to upgrade the forks completely, or ????

Hi Grant

No, I was just wondering if there was anything like 'of course, you must remember to .....' or
any 'Thou Shalt Nots' that I ought to know about as I've never had to do much on the forks before other than change the seals. I'm just replacing the stanchions with rechromed ones due to slight pitting of the originals rather than uprating anything (other than the oil grade.) I'm also fitting gaiters from Motor Works.

So, any guidance would be appreciated.
