K Series Tyre mileage
 

Hi, I'm riding round Australia on a K100RT and wondered what approximate tyre mileage I can expect,I know its all relative but a rough idea would be good. It's running Michelin macadams now. Bike is one up but fully loaded. Regards Chris

It's an impossible question (for someone else) to answer. What other tires have you ridden, and how many miles did you get on those? The kind of bike has the least to do with your mileage. And the type of tire has less to do with how many miles you'll get than a similar purpose tire. Sure, some tires wear faster (or slower) than others. But the biggest factor in how many miles you will get is how YOU ride the sucker. People with different riding styles get many thousands of miles more or less than another rider with the same bike and same tires, simply due to how they ride.

Tyres will also ware faster near the equator .... at least in OZ. The road surface is more abrasive up there .. probably due to the weather conditions (monsoonal rains, floods etc).

You should get at least 10,000 kms out of them. The fronts tend to ware faster on K models - more weight on the front tyre? Or geometry? What ever - I find that the front and rear tend to need replacing near the same milage.

Thanks for the answer Frank, have managed to get to Perth having covered about 9500ks and the rear is just about hanging in there, the front as you say has worn rather a lot so I'm gona replace both here for my trip up to Darwin and back to Sydney. As for Quastdogs answer...............hmm, not much use was it really.

You may want another set in Darwin ... depending on how you get from Darwin to Sydney there may not be much in the way of tyres on the way. And watch the ware rate up north. Broome onwards.
