Impulsgenerator gone bust = broken ITU
Hi,
My broken ITU (impulsgenerators) are still causing me headache! (ITU = impuls trigger unit, zündimpulsgeber, replaced the braker-point system from 1981-on /7.) My current situation is - three (3) broken ITUs and one damage that is lent to a friend. BMW do sell new units, but 350-400EU compared with 9-10EU?! The incitement to mend the broken once is rather strong compared with buy new once -;) Besides... I will need to open them anyway to install the stops that block the flyweights to about 26'( http://www.derdicke.de/mot/dz.html ) and doing so will make any warranties void... buy new parts does not sound too smart in these circumstances. www.hallsensors.de does probably have fitting hall sensors, but... how do one place an order with them??? Art.nr. CYHME56, CYHME56L and CYHME301, http://www.chenyang-gmbh.com , http://www.hallsensors.de/CYHME301.pdf http://www.hallsensors.de/CYHME56.pdf http://www.hallsensors.de/CYHME56L.pdf From Jaycar Electronics one can buy a hall sensor that is equivalent to Siemens HKZ 101, art.nr. ZD-1900. www.acte.se can not supply any hall sensors. www.honeywell.com does most likely have a hall sensor that does fit. I have checked with Honeywell sensor HQ, Denmark, and it looks like this might be the fitting hall sensor: http://sensing.honeywell.com/index.cfm?ci_id=140301&la_id=1&pr_id=150147 One retailer in Sweden for Honeywell is www.Kamic.se - they can supply No 2AV54, at a quite good price, about 108Sek/each, if one buys 1000 units i.e. .... Farnell can deliver the Honeywell 2AV54 but does not sell to private persons. They only sell to businesses/retailers... and for us in EU there is an added import cost of the 2AV54... however Farnell presents an option to that hall sensor: http://se.farnell.com/jsp/search/altsSubs.jsp?type=alts&sku=2093844 * Farnell suggested that I should contact, http://www.microkit.se/ , in Västerås. I ordered (2009-03-16) one HONEYWELL S&C - 2AV54 - SENSOR, HALL EFFECT, MAGNETIC from Micro Kit to test and see if it can be used. Delivery time is within a day or so - so I'll have the hall sensor within the week. Retail price is about 245,- Sek (2009-03-16). I just got a couple of tips from Välkommen till El & Diesel Skellefteå AB that the hall sensor used in Volvo 740 looks like it could fit. Bosch 1 231 324 221 (if I managed to get the part.no. correctly). Retails for about 1250,- Sek (2009-03-16) or one can get a "low cost pattern" Facett 8 27 22 which retails for about 850,- Sek (2009-03-16) On the Chinese manufacturing pages on internet there are several possible hall sensors presented - I have not gone further investigating which once would be most likely to fit. If you have broken three you have a serious problem and I don’t think it’s smart to fit a new one before the problem is solved. Hall-sensors generally last forever.

I'm sorry, but no, it is not obvious. One article is about 2v cannister, the other is about 4v oil head. Being cryptic does not help. another article talks about all the systems. I would like to try to help you if i can, but it's late and i really don't feel like sourcing through pages of info trying to guess for sure what bike your talking about. Hall Effect Sensor Replacement

Any luck getting sensor (I'm from PORTUGAL, best if EU source). Farnell says "obsolete part", no stock. I'm running out of time for departure. I see options: BMW - fast, incredibly expensive 400euros MOTOBINS - probably fast 200euros Sensor - ?no luck getting sensor, maybe trouble fixing, <50euros + work Any opinion/ new input? :helpsmilie: Thanks a lot. The Honeywell hallsensor seems to fit - I have one to be testinstalled any day now. Bought it via elektronikkomponenter, komponenter, elektronik, microkit, elektronikbyggsatser The hallsensors.de does fit - will get those should the Honeywell prove not to fit/work. The hallsensors sold by Jaycars will fit - but they are quite expensive to import from Australia to EU... I'm not one bit sure about which resistant to use (yet). I've just got the needed stops/adaptors made last week for the dual-plugging. Need to solve this before I start messing with the ITUs. Will start fiddling with the hallsensors any day now - sorry it has taken such a long time -:( Perhaps you should consider retro-fit the bike with the braker-point canister instead as recommended in another thread here on Horizions Unlimited? It seems to be very hard to get hold of 2nd hand ITUs today... |

I've been using my points canister for a few months now and everything is working great. These things are REALLY simple and can be completely disassembled and repaired on the side of the road. Just bring a spare set of points ($8) and you're safe.

At last!
I've just manage to take the ITU apart today and drill-out the old broken hallsensor. The rivets in the new are a bit short... and I have still to figure out how to get them to lock the new hallsensor in place... The honeywell hallsensor is just about identical with the old Siemens(?)/Bosch one. There is only one visuable differense - the gap in which the aluminum triggering "cap" spins; it is about 1.5mm wider... wonder if this is the possible cause of the problems that are presented/hinted on the net... I'll try to get the ITU back together and test run by tomorrow (2009-08-10). With the experience I have aquired today, I would not recommend to try mend the ITU, less one is quite experienced in the work-shop/garage... it proved to be far more complicated that what it looked like... I would recommend, in view of all this, that one contact Moto-bins - BMW Spare Parts and Accessories for Motorcycles - Index and get their overhauled (exchange system?) units.
