Heated grips

Hi

I'm still looking for a wiring diagram for my new heated grips that I got cheap (old stock) as I am mystified as to how a change-over switch with three wires to it can possibly give both half- and full power.

Actually, I'm not absolutely certain of that; the dealer said that in one position of the switch the grips were connected in parallel and in the other in series, and according to the voltmeter on the dash one position does take more power than the other. There aren't any resistors in the kit, only the two grips, the switch, and the connectors to the positive and earth, although there is a funny lump in the little wiring loom provided- I don't know if that's a diode. I'm a bit pi**ed off that I can't work it out for myself, something doesn't add up here. So, tell me, what have I got wrong?

Thanks,

John

my symtec heaters have 3 positions, LO-OFF-HI. the heaters have two elements in each grip, LO uses one element, HI uses both at once.

I have a wiring diagram in a Clymer manual (K series). I know little about what I can't see (electricity) but am fairly logical. However, it made little sense to me - but I did follow it to check a failure in one grip and "Hey Presto", they both started working again!

Scanning is beyond me and my PC, but I can photocopy it tomorrow (wednesday) and Fax or Mail it to you if you PM me with a Fax number or address.

If you send me a PM with your email address I can email you a copy of the R1100GS wiring schematic. It's too large to upload here.
