Gs Collector box

hi, I am wondering for R100gs riders who changed their exhaust collector boxes for the Y piece, was it a good idea? if anyone held onto the collector box and want to sell it. I am willing to buy it and pay postage.

I changed my collector box on my r80 basic after it rotted out. No issues with it other than having to fettle the bash plate to make it fit.

I have had a stainless Keihan Y piece on my R80GS for about 15 years and no problems.

I traded my y-pipe for a collector-box, it killed midrange.
There are a few designs of the y-pipe, some might work better then other.

I had this Y-pipe on my R100GS, Performed as well as the stock collector.

Some of the other types don't have the same 2-into-1 design which effects the gas flow from each of the cylinders causing poor running.

BMW Boxer Supplies is also a great place for R80G/S and R100GS upgrades, very good service too. (I've spent far too much there over the years) :)

I have the Keihan downpipes (without crossover), y piece and silencer. No problems with the engine tuning. I don't expect there to be a power difference, but I'm guessing that it is a lighter setup. The R100GSPD is such an underpowered fat pig of a bike, any reduction in weight is welcome.

I can also recommend that online shop. I've had excellent service from them, posting to the UK. Boxxerparts is also a very good German online company. I think both of them are a bit cheaper than UK based companies.

regarding y pipe????

So also drank the y pipe kool aid and purchased the high dollar y pipe from boxer ...can anyone comment on the install of said pipe ? to me my initial observations is the new part is 3/8 inch narrow at intake of pipe under stock Is this sloppy manufacture ?...Not sure who even made the piece Is rebending required to install ....and is rejetting really necessary to get performance . i am running a stock us set up with 32 mm carbs the shed system removed .Current system runs strong .The y pipe looks like the hot set up but there seems to be quite a discussion regarding the removal of the stock collector .. please advise thanks stu
