Fuel range, 1150ADV
 

I'm riding from Darwin to Melbourne. I had the bike serviced before i left and i put new tyres on him. There is some long flat stretches of road on which you can get a good idea of the range from a full tank. I 've seen it on the HUBB where people say they get upwards of 600k per tank. So far i've travelled around 4000k in 6 days and the most i've managed out of a tank is around 450k. I sit on about 110 because it's seems to be the most efficient speed. So, i guess i'm asking for other peoples experiences.

That's about what i get from mine, fuel light normally comes on at about 240 miles that leaves 4 litres in reserve (31 litre tank) and it doesnt seem to make much difference how i ride either.

I get much the same 240 miles, before fuel light although I have had 300 miles on a long steady couple of days cruising ,watching the world go by:scooter:

I've drilled out the filler neck on my 1150 Adventure tank, increases capacity to 32 litres.

Best mileage so far is 312 miles / 499km from 27.5 litres giving 18 km per litre or 51.5mpg.

Another tip for the Adventure tank is to an additional right angles quick fuel disconnect to the crossover fuel pipe on the left hand side. This allows much easier tank removal & refitting whilst leaving the crossover pipe in place, useful in low light conditions.

I get 500km with my GSA no problem(2002). Once I ran out of fuel on 550km in Northern Mozambique. This consumpsion is with two-up and RTW luggage (lots). My traveling speed is 90-100km/h to get this milage. I use the 'low fuel grade' chip (not sure if that helps) and always buy the cheapest low octane fuel. The higher the altedute the better the fuel millage. Reserve normally comes on at 460-480kms. The main key is to accelerate slow and be consistant with you speed, but I'm sure you know this. . . .

If you are worried about running out, the trick is to know your RID and when that last bar goes out, how much fuel remains and how far you can go till you are pushing.

The stats from my spreadsheet...

Best 4.78 l/100 kms or 59.1 MPG.
Average: 5.38 l/100 kms or 52.7 MPG.
Worst: 6.25 l/100 kms or 45.2 MPG.

The average accounts for well over 90% of my fill-ups where I cruise at 120 km/hr on back roads and I fill up at 500 kms, give or take.
