Fuel line tap
I would like to put a tap in my fuel line to fill my stove.
My bike is a R 1200 GSA LC. I think the fuel pump is in the tank. So I am not sure whats gona happen if I try to get fuel out.

Is the fuel running trough the pump.

Do I have to turn on the key and the pump kicks in to prime the injection pump.

Or is it going to stuff up the whole system.

Dos anybody have answers to those questions. Or an idea to do it in a different way.

The fuel pump is in the tank and is what makes the whirring noise what you turn the ignition on. The line from the fuel pump to the injectors can hit 22 bar pressure, so you don't want a gravity feed/carbs type tap in there, it'll leak or worse. There is a return pipe that should be lower pressure as it is only feeding back into the space before the pump. T into that (use brass or FI rated bits) and put a tap on and so long as the tank is full above the entry point it might work but it can be a very small pipe feeding into a space restricted by the fuel pump itself.


Personally I'd buy 2m of fish tank pipe and a couple of big syringes (the seals aren't Nitrile so will fail eventually). Syphon into the stove and leave the bike as reliable as it ever was.

I would be more inclined to leave alone as Threewheelbonnie says. Just another weak point at some stage. Given that you will fill your tank on the bike more often than your stove, just have a small plastic drink bottle with enough for your stove. Stow it somewhere sensible, when you need it fill up the stove, then next time you refuel fill the bottle up too. You just need to make sure your bottle is the type with a wide neck to make life easy and you can stop start the fuel nozzle at the pump station !

When i'm using the K100 I use a syringe and pipe. It definitely makes sense not to mess around a high pressure fuel delivery system.

Thanks guys. I think that info will save me a lot of hassle. I will go with the syringes.
I used to have a Moto Guzzy many years ago and a tap on there worked fine there. Bud it was not a injection motor.
So when I looked under the tank on the BMW I thought I better ask somebody.
