F800 GS pillion foot rests

Has anyone else noticed this? The pillion footrest hangers on the F800GS stick out a very long way from the side of the subframe. A REALLY LONG WAY, in just the right position to cause the subframe to bend if the bike is dropped at speed.

It's not visible from the photos, but it was the first thing that I noticed when I saw one at the NEC show. It immediately gave me the impression that the bike wasn't really designed for off-road riding. A sturdy set of panniers might help. And crash bars to wrap around all that Tonka-toy plastic (does that phrase mean anything to anyone outside the UK?)

Yes, I noticed that as well - reminded me of the earlier Triumph Tiger pillion pegs - welded on in much the same way from memory; perhaps they are from the same parts bin!? :rolleyes2:

Anyway, they will be OK so long as the pillion keeps their leg under the peg when the bike is dropped - that will stop the paint getting scratched off. :eek3:
