Enlarging small grips on R1200 GS
 

Hi, and sorry if this appeared in another topic. I looked first but couldn't find anything, so here to pass on something I did to my bike that you might also find useful...

I found the grips on my R1200 GS to be too small. Compared to a K75 and K100, they seem smaller to me, partly because I think it was part of BMW making the sensation of a lighter bike. Anyhow, after 6 months into my RTW, my hands were always cramping on long hauls. Enquiries to BMW dealers came back as not available, and if it was, it would be very expensive. So I thought about bicycle rubber grips, but they were too small, and the black foam ones weren't sturdy enough. Then one day, strolling in a sports store it occurred to me that the grip on my tennis racquet would be perfect.

Babolat (a tennis company) and others make different materials. I choose the one that was pretty much waterproof and a big thickness. One $7 Euro package worked for both grips. Simply wrapped each grip like I would a tennis handle, used a plastic ziptie at the ends, and they have stayed on for the last 2 months, rain and all. The heated grips still work fine through the material, and the extra cushioning is fabulous. It's firm enough to not feel squishy and the tackier grip actually feels much better against the leather gloves.

So if you find the grips too small, give it a try. It's only $7 if you don't like it.
